Fraunhofer Scientist chairs Workshop on Software Architecture Challenges in the 21st Century

June 2009 - Dr. Forrest Shull, division director for Measurement and Knowledge Management at CESE, organized and chaired a workshop bringing together industry, researchers, and educators who are addressing the challenges related to making software development better match the ambitious requirements and fast pace of current projects.

The agenda featured eminent thought leaders, including:
•Grady Booch (via Second Life) on pushing the envelope in architecting software-intensive systems

•Philippe Kruchten, drawing on his influential career as a software engineer, consultant, and educator

•Pekka Abrahamsson on the intersection of software architectures and agile approaches

… and a full day of talks and panel discussions that addressed both real-world challenges and emerging research solutions.

The workshop was co-sponsored by:
- IEEE Software magazine, the authority on translating software theory into practice, featuring peer-reviewed articles and columns by real-world experts

- The University of Southern California’s Center for Software and Systems Engineering, a research center with a national reputation for tackling the problems of building large-scale IT systems to solve complex problems

- The University of California, Irvine’s Institute for Software Research, dedicated to fostering innovative basic and applied research in software and information technologies through partnerships with industry and government
